What happens to what you type

The short version, in plain words.

Questions you ask

Your question is sent to our AI so it can answer. Our server logs note that a question was asked, never the question itself. To answer repeat questions instantly, we keep the two answers to the first question of a game for a day, filed under a scrambled code instead of the question's words.

The research box

If you tick "Also add your game to our public AI safety dataset", we keep your questions, the AI's answers, which side you picked for each sentence and your guesses, linked by a random code for that game (never your name or address). We may publish this as an open dataset, for example on Hugging Face, after removing anything that looks personal, to help people study what goes on inside AI models. The box is at the end of the game, next to your guess. It's off unless you tick it; ticking it adds the game you just played and stays on for future games until you untick it. Please don't include anything personal in your questions.

Chatting with one side after the game

Messages go to our AI for a reply. Without the research box, we don't keep them: the conversation stays only in your browser, until that day's puzzle is over (so it's still there if you reload).

Your score and your guess

When you finish, we keep which side you picked for each sentence and your score, with no name or address attached. If you send a guess about what the neuron does, we keep it and read it to help work out what neurons do. They're only published if you ticked the research box.

Sharing

When you share, we save the question and the answer you chose (and your score, if you've finished) to make the link and its preview picture. Anyone with the link can see it.

Fair use limits

So no one can hog the AI, each visitor gets one question at a time and a limit per hour. To do that we use a scrambled version of your internet address. It's kept only in the server's memory and never saved.

On your device

Your browser remembers a few things so the game works: that you've seen the intro, whether you ticked the research box, today's game so far (your questions, the answers, your picks and any chat after the game, so a reload puts you back where you were), today's result, and on iPhone, your keyboard's height. A game is cleared the next time you visit after its day is over. None of it is sent anywhere. You can clear them by clearing this site's data.

What we do with it

We use it to run the game and to learn what the neurons inside the AI do. We don't sell it. We publish only what you agreed to with the research box, and we may share what we learn about the neurons.

Who's involved

The site runs on Cloudflare. Questions travel through our own server in the cloud to our own computer, where the AI runs.
